Early Life
Shevah Weiss was born in 1935 in Boryslav, Poland. During the Holocaust, his family was hidden by Ukrainian neighbors. In 1947, Weiss immigrated to Israel.
Education and Political Career
Weiss studied political science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and earned a doctorate. In 1969, he was elected to the Haifa City Council. From 1981 to 1992, he served as a Knesset member from the Labor Party. In 1992, he became Speaker of the Knesset.
Diplomacy and Holocaust Remembrance
After his parliamentary career, Weiss transitioned to diplomacy and served as Israel's ambassador to Poland from 2000 to 2004. Concurrently, he held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center.
Authorship and Recognition
Weiss is an author of numerous works on political science. His contributions to Israeli politics and society have earned him widespread recognition and respect.
