Controversy and Recognition

Shortly after the film "Head-On" won at the Berlinale in February 2004, German tabloid magazine Bild published articles about Sibel Kekilli's past life, including her involvement in pornographic films under the pseudonym Dilara. This provoked a wave of discussions, sympathy, and solidarity for the actress, drawing significant attention to both the new film and her previous participation in adult films. In an interview, Sibel explained, "It's really as it always happens: I was young, and I needed money."

On November 18, 2004, during the broadcast of the Bambi Awards, Sibel Kekilli called on Bild and the Cologne Express magazines to stop "this dirty persecution" ("diese dreckige Hetzkampagne"). On December 2, 2004, the German Press Council openly condemned Bild's reportage, stating that it degraded human dignity. They said, "Public interest cannot serve as an excuse for a reportage that reduces the personality of the individual being discussed to what can be read on the cover of porn film cassettes."
