Siber's Early Life and Education

Siber was born on December 13, 1960, in Nicosia, Cyprus. Her father, Altay Adademir, was an elementary school teacher from Melouseia, and her mother, Aysel, was a housewife from Klavdia. Due to her father's frequent school assignments, the family relocated frequently.

At the age of 16, Siber enrolled in the medical faculty of Istanbul University, a period marked by student political activism. She graduated in 1983 as a physician. In 1987, she completed her specialization in internal medicine at Sisli Etfal Hospital.

Return to Cyprus and Career in Medicine

After completing her studies, Siber returned to Cyprus and began practicing medicine in a private clinic. In 1989, she pursued a Fellowship in Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University of Virginia.

Her 1983 publication criticizing the healthcare system in the TRNC in the then-largest circulation newspaper in the country launched her into the public arena.

Political Career

Premier of the TRNC

In June 2013, Siber became the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of the TRNC, a position she held until September of the same year.

Speaker of the TRNC Assembly

From 2013 to 2018, Siber served as Speaker of the TRNC Assembly, becoming only the second woman after Fatma Ekenoglu to hold this post.

Presidential Bid

In 2015, Siber ran for President of the TRNC but finished third behind Dervish Eroglu and Mustafa Akinci.

Personal Life

In 1984, Siber married urologist Rifat Siber. They have a daughter named Sumer, who was born in 1985.
