Silvio Danailov: Bulgarian Chess Master and Champion Manager

Early Achievements:

Silvio Danailov, a Bulgarian chess master, emerged onto the international stage as a young prodigy. In 1980, he claimed third place at the European Youth Championship and placed between 6th and 14th at the World Youth Championship, where Garry Kasparov reigned supreme.

Bulgarian Champion and Manager:

In 1983, Danailov shared the Bulgarian Championship title but lost the tie-breaker to Donchev by a score of 1½:2½. From the early 1990s onward, he served as the manager for Veselin Topalov, the 2005 FIDE World Chess Champion and one of the world's top players.

M-Tel Masters and the "Toilet Scandal":

Since 2005, Danailov has been responsible for organizing the M-Tel Masters chess tournament in Sofia. During the 2006 World Championship match between Topalov and Vladimir Kramnik, Danailov sparked the infamous "toilet scandal." He accused Kramnik of frequenting the restroom, where he allegedly received computer assistance due to a lack of video surveillance. The incident threatened to disrupt the match and was later investigated by the FIDE Ethics Commission. Danailov's behavior was found to violate the FIDE Code of Ethics, resulting in a reprimand.

Leadership in European Chess:

In 2010, Danailov was elected President of the European Chess Union. He continues to play a significant role in promoting chess at the international level.
