Early Life and Career

Baker attended Bellingen High School and graduated in 1987. After high school, he moved to Sydney to pursue a career as a nurse. However, his life took a different turn when he started accompanying a friend to auditions and ended up getting cast in various roles. He began appearing on Australian television in the late 1980s under the name "Simon Baker-Denny." He appeared in music videos for Melissa Tkautz's song "Read My Lips" and the Australian trio "Euphoria's" music video for "Love You Right" in 1991.

Breakthrough and International Success

Baker gained recognition for his role as James Healey in the successful series "Home and Away," as well as in the soap opera "E Street" and the series "Heartbreak High." He then relocated to the United States, where he changed his last name to Baker. He landed a significant role as Matt Reynolds in Curtis Hanson's award-winning thriller "L.A. Confidential," which opened doors for supporting roles in several films.
