Biography of So Win

So Win, born in 1949, is a prominent figure in Myanmar's military regime. After graduating from the military academy, he quickly climbed the ranks of the military. In 1988, he commanded an infantry division that was involved in suppressing popular protests in Yangon, the country's capital. He also commanded the northern military district, where rebellious ethnic groups continue to operate.

Senior General Than Shwe, the head of Myanmar's military regime, appointed So Win as the prime minister.
