Biography of Son Min Sun
Son Min Sun, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade in South Korea, was born on July 28, 1948, in Kensan-Namdo province. He graduated from the prestigious Seoul National University, majoring in German Studies. Son is known as a professional diplomat and has worked in various countries, including West Berlin, India, Washington, and Singapore. He also served as an ambassador to Poland.
Son Min Sun is well-known for being one of the key developers of the government's current foreign policy. He considers Washington as Seoul's main partner and actively participated in the six-party talks on the North Korean nuclear issue. His colleagues often note his explosive character, and he is known for his use of humor and metaphors. In fact, during an interview in 2000, which escalated into a heated discussion, Son, who was working in the North America department, almost resorted to physical confrontation. On another occasion, during negotiations with the United States, he pounded his fist on the table and shouted at the American partners. His aggressive behavior during negotiations earned him the nickname "Colonel Son" from the Americans.
