Born in the village of Meenampatti near Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu, Sridevi is an Indian actress who began her acting career at the age of 4. She made her debut as an adult actress in the late 1970s and went on to become one of the most popular actresses in Indian cinema during her career. In 1997, she left the industry to devote herself to her family.

Early Life and Career
Sridevi was born to Ayyappan and Rajeswari, with Tamil being her native language. She has a sister named Srilatha and two half-brothers, Satish and Anand, from her father's previous marriage. Her cousins Maheswari and Karthik also worked in the film industry.

Sridevi started her child acting career in the Tamil film "Kandhan Karunai." In her early teenage years, she acted in numerous films in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi languages. Many of her Malayalam films were directed by I. V. Sasi, one of the leading directors in Malayalam cinema.

In 1976, she received her first major role in the film "Moondru Mudichu" directed by K. Balachander. She co-starred with Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth in this film and went on to act in several more films with them. She also appeared in Telugu films, many of which were directed by Raghavendra Rao. She acted alongside N. T. Rama Rao, A. Nageswara Rao, and Krishna in several Telugu films.

Success in Bollywood
Towards the end of her career, Sridevi transitioned to acting in Hindi films, also known as Bollywood. Many of these films starred Jeetendra and were remakes of Telugu films, primarily directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and K. Bapayya. In 1978, Sridevi played her first leading role in the Hindi film "Solva Saawan." Her second film, "Himmatwala," also starred Jeetendra, and they went on to work together in films like "Tohfa," "Mawaali," and "Justice Chaudhury."
In 1983, Sridevi starred alongside Kamal Haasan in the drama film "Sadma." This role earned her the first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Some of her notable films from the 1980s include "Mr. India," "Nagina," and "Chaalbaaz," for which she won her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
In 1991, she collaborated with director Yash Chopra for the film "Lamhe," in which she played a double role. This performance earned her the second Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In the same year, she appeared in the Telugu film "Kshana Kshanam," which won her another Filmfare Award and a Nandi Award.
Later Career and Personal Life
After her success in the 1980s and 1990s, Sridevi continued to act in films like "Gumrah" and "Laadla." Her final nomination for the Filmfare Award came for her role in the drama film "Judaai" in 1997. Following this, she took a break from the industry to focus on her personal life after marrying film producer Boney Kapoor on June 2, 1996. They have two daughters, Jhanvi and Khushi.
During her break from acting, Sridevi made occasional appearances on television, including the sitcom "Malini Iyer" and as a judge on the reality show "Kaboom." She also performed a medley of her songs at the 52nd Filmfare Awards in 2007. Furthermore, Sridevi became a member of the board of directors of the Asian Academy of Film & Television.
Sadly, Sridevi's father passed away while she was filming "Lamhe," and her mother passed away during the filming of "Judaai."
