Early Life and Career
Antanas Daņisevičius was born in 1957 in Panevėžys, Lithuania. He began his football career as a youth at the local sports boarding school. His professional debut came with second-tier Soviet club Atlantas, where he made an unknown number of appearances.
Rise to Success with Žalgiris
In 1976, Daņisevičius joined another second-tier club, Žalgiris. In 1977, he helped the team win their league zone and earn promotion to the first tier. In 1980, he moved to Iskra Smolensk, where he played 42 games and scored 5 goals. After one season, he returned to Žalgiris.
In 1982, Daņisevičius led Žalgiris to the first-tier championship and subsequently played in the top flight for three and a half seasons, making 98 appearances and scoring 12 goals. He left the team mid-season in 1986 and spent six months with first-tier club Kolos Nikopol before returning to Atlantas in the second tier for another two years.
Post-Soviet Career
Following the withdrawal of Lithuanian clubs from Soviet leagues in 1990, Daņisevičius joined Paneris. With Paneris, he won the inaugural Lithuanian regular championship in 1990.
International Career
Daņisevičius earned 5 caps for the Lithuanian national team, all in 1992. He made his debut against Poland and also played in two World Cup qualifying matches and two friendly matches.
Later Life and Legacy
After retiring from playing in 1993, Daņisevičius became president of Paneris. He held that position until 1998 when the club dissolved due to bankruptcy. Daņisevičius passed away on May 13, 2024, at the age of 66.
