Stefano Coletti: A Biography

Stefano Coletti is a professional racing driver from Monaco. He began his successful career in karting before transitioning to open-wheel racing series. In 2003, Coletti finished as the runner-up in the Italian Open Masters ICA Junior category. The following year, he won titles in the Andrea Margutti Trophy and the European Championship ICA Junior, defeating notable drivers such as Charles Pic, Jaime Alguersuari, and Jules Bianchi.

In 2005, Coletti moved to formula racing, joining the Eifelland Racing team for the Formula BMW ADAC Championship, where he finished in 18th place overall. He also competed in the Formula BMW World Final in Bahrain and secured a 25th-place finish. In 2006, he continued in the championship and achieved four podium finishes, including his sole victory, ultimately finishing 7th in the standings. Coletti also participated in four races of the Formula BMW USA series, winning three of them and securing a 5th-place finish in the season despite missing a significant portion of it. He also competed in the Formula BMW World Final in Valencia, finishing third.

In August 2006, Coletti made his debut in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, racing for Cram Competition and Motopark Academy, but failed to score any points in the six races he participated in. In 2007, he joined the Spanish team Epsilon Euskadi for the Eurocup and the Italian Formula Renault 2.0 Championship. Coletti finished fourth in the Eurocup standings, with a victory at the Hungaroring and two additional podiums. In the Italian series, he achieved two victories in Misano and ended the season in tenth place.

Coletti moved on to compete in the Euroseries Formula 3 for the 2008 season, joining the French team Signature-Plus. However, he left the team after the first four races due to losing his spot in the Red Bull driver support program. Coletti missed the subsequent race in Pau before joining the Italian team Prema Powerteam for the remainder of the season. His best result was a fourth-place finish in the penultimate race at Hockenheim, concluding the season in 20th position. He also participated in the non-championship races Formula 3 Masters and the Macau Grand Prix but retired from both.

In January 2009, Prema announced that Coletti would remain with the team for the 2009 season. He claimed his first victory in the series at Hockenheim in the opening race, qualifying in second place. The following month, Coletti competed in the Formula 3 Masters at Zandvoort, qualifying fourth and finishing third behind Mika Mäki and race winner Valtteri Bottas. Currently, Coletti occupies the ninth position in the Euroseries standings, although he was involved in a controversial incident after the first race at the Norisring. While holding third place in the championship, Coletti struck race winner Jules Bianchi in the face, stating that Bianchi had used "unpleasant words" towards him. As a consequence, Coletti was disqualified and excluded from the protocols of the second race.

In November 2008, Coletti tested with the Italian team RC Motorsport in the World Series by Renault at Valencia, alongside former GP2 driver Andy Soucek. On May 15, 2009, it was announced that Coletti would race for Prema Powerteam at the Monaco round of the World Series by Renault, replacing Franck Perera. Initially finishing in 11th place, a penalty imposed on Marco Barba elevated Coletti to 10th place, earning him his only point. Coletti will make his debut in the GP2 Series at the Valencia street circuit, replacing Davide Valsecchi in the Durango team, who moved to Barwa Addax.
