Early Life and Education
Stepan Grigoryan was born on September 24, 1953, in Tbilisi, Georgia. He completed high school in 1970 and went on to earn a degree in Theoretical Mathematics and Physics from Tbilisi State University between 1970 and 1975.
Scientific Contributions
Grigoryan pursued further education as an aspirant at the Yerevan Institute of Physics from 1975 to 1983, earning a Doctorate in Physics and Mathematics. He has authored over 30 publications on high-energy physics and elementary particles.
Political Career
Grigoryan embarked on a political career, serving as a member of the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR from 1990 to 1995. He was also a member of the standing commission on human rights and the Armenian National Movement.
Diplomatic Roles
From 1995 to 1998, Grigoryan held the positions of Extraordinary Envoy and Plenipotentiary Minister of the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation. He also served as the Plenipotentiary Representative of Armenia to the Collective Security Treaty Organization of the CIS from 1996 to 1999 and as an advisor to the Armenian Foreign Minister from 1998 to 2000.
Global and Regional Cooperation
Grigoryan has been actively involved in promoting democracy and civil society development. Since 1999, he has been a member of the Council of the Center for the Development of Democracy and Civil Society in Armenia. He actively participated in South Caucasus forums and over 100 international conferences, seminars, and roundtables on conflict resolution, regional security, and cooperation in the South Caucasus, globalization, and human rights.
Other Activities
Grigoryan has authored approximately 120 articles on issues such as resolving conflicts, regional security, South Caucasus cooperation, globalization, civil society development, human rights, and Armenia's cooperation with international organizations such as NATO, the EU, OSCE, and the Council of Europe. He is also the Chairman of the Board of the Analytical Center for Globalization and Regional Cooperation from 2002 onwards.
