Early Life and InfluencesStepan Petrovich Shchipachev was born on December 26, 1898 (January 7, 1899 N.S.) in the village of Shchipachi, Yekaterinburg Governorate. At a young age, he became an orphan and worked as a farmhand, shopkeeper, and miner.
Military Service and Literary Beginnings
In 1919, Shchipachev joined the Red Army, serving as a soldier, cadet, and political worker. His early poems appeared in military leaflets and local newspapers. In 1923, he published his first collection, "Along the Kurgans of Centuries," in Simferopol.
Literary Development and Recognition
By the mid-1930s, Shchipachev's poetry took on lyrical tones. Notable works of this period include "Under the Sky of My Homeland" (1937) and "Lyrics" (1939). In 1934, he graduated from the literary department of the Institute of Red Professorship.
World War II and Patriotic Poetry
During World War II, Shchipachev worked in the frontline press. His wartime poems, such as "Frontline Verses" (1942) and "Lines of Love" (1945), captured the experiences of soldiers and the spirit of patriotism.
Post-War Era and Literary Legacy
In the post-war years, Shchipachev wrote poems and created autobiographical works. In 1958, he published "Birch Sap," a childhood memoir. From the 1960s onwards, he crafted epic poems, including "The Heir" (1965), "The Stargazer," and "Scene: The Globe" (1967). His collection "To Comrades in Life" was published in 1972.
Later Years and Legacy
In 1973, a three-volume collection of Shchipachev's works was published. He passed away in Moscow in 1979, leaving behind a legacy of powerful and moving poetry that reflected his life experiences and the social and political upheavals of his time.
