European and Russian Business Leader
Born with dual citizenship in the United States and Germany, the subject of this biography is a European and Russian business leader who has made significant contributions to the corporate world. Fluent in English, German, French, Spanish, and Russian, he possesses a distinguished educational background, earning a degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from INSEAD.
Early Career
From 1987 to 1991, he worked as a financial analyst at Salomon Brothers. In 1992, he became Deputy Head of the Moscow office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Five years later, he joined Alfa Group, where he served as Director of Corporate Development, Finance, and Control until 2001.
International Investments
In 2001, he relocated to London and took up leadership roles in SUN Group, an investment company. Notably, he oversaw SUN Interbrew, the brewing business. He also served on the boards of directors for companies such as CSA Czech Airlines, Alfa-Bank, SUN Interbrew Ltd, Iberia Refreshments (Tbilisi, Georgia), and Concern Galnaftogaz (Lviv, Ukraine).
X5 Retail Group
From December 2006 to September 2008, he acted as an independent director of Siberian Coal Energy Company, where he chaired the Human Resources and Remuneration Committee and was a member of the Budget, Audit, Risk, and Internal Control Committee. In October 2008, he joined the Supervisory Board of X5 Retail Group, leading the Human Resources Committee. He held various executive roles within the company, including acting CEO and CEO from July 2012 to April 2013 and April 2013 to November 2015, respectively. Since November 2015, he has served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of X5 Retail Group.
Philanthropy and Entrepreneurship
In March 2016, he joined the Board of Trustees of the Food Fund "Rus." In December 2016, he became the Head of L1 Retail, an international retail investment platform.
