Biography of Patrick Beverley
Early Life and College Career
Patrick Beverley is an American professional basketball player who currently plays as a point guard for Spartak (Saint Petersburg). He began his basketball journey in Chicago, where he attended John Marshall High School. After high school, he enrolled at the University of Arkansas and played for the Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team from 2006 to 2008. Beverley excelled during his college career, consistently leading his team in various statistical categories.
Professional Career
After his college career, Patrick Beverley signed with the Ukrainian basketball team Dnipro for the 2008/09 season. He had an impressive performance with the team, leading them in assists, steals, and three-point shooting percentage. In addition, he ranked second in points and rebounds per game. Beverley's excellent performance earned him a spot in the All-Star game in Ukraine and a victory in the slam dunk contest.
In the summer of 2009, Beverley entered the NBA Draft and was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 42nd overall pick. However, he decided to sign a contract with the Greek team Olympiacos, where he played alongside players like Josh Childress and Linas Kleiza during the 2009/10 season. While playing for Olympiacos, Beverley won the Greek Cup but fell short in the Greek Championship finals against Panathinaikos and in the EuroLeague finals against Barcelona.
Beverley then participated in the NBA Summer League in 2010 with the Miami Heat and later signed a contract with the team on August 2, 2010. However, his tenure with the Heat was short-lived, and he was released on October 26, 2010. On January 10, 2011, Beverley signed with Spartak in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
During his time with Spartak, Beverley experienced both success and injury setbacks. He helped the team win the Russian Cup in 2011 and reach the Final Four of the EuroCup in the 2010/2011 season. However, he suffered an injury during a game, which prevented him from participating in the All-Star game and the slam dunk contest.
National Team Career
In an interview on September 25, 2011, Patrick Beverley expressed his desire to play for the Russian national basketball team. However, due to his participation in the USA national team at the 2007 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, Beverley would need permission from FIBA's Secretary-General to represent Russia.
On November 10, 2011, Beverley and Spartak agreed to a new contract extension until the end of the 2013/2014 season, with an option for an additional year.
