Early Life and Career

Born on December 6, 1955, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Steven Wright grew up in Burlington with three siblings. His parents, Lucille (née Lomano) and Alexander C. Wright, raised him in the Catholic faith. Wright's father, an electronics technician, initially worked for NASA's Apollo program and later as a truck driver.

Wright attended Middlesex Community College for two years and then transferred to Emerson College, graduating in 1978. He began performing stand-up the following year at the Ding Ho Comedy Club in Boston.

Comedic Breakthrough

Wright's 1985 comedy album, "I Have a Pony," garnered critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination. He gained further recognition from his HBO special, "A Steven Wright Special," which showcased his unique style of deadpan humor, ironic observations, and anti-jokes.

Awards and Honors

In 1989, Wright won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for co-writing and directing "The Appointments of Dennis Jennings." He received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations as a producer of the television series "Louie" in 2014 and 2015. Wright was also the first inductee into the Boston Comedy Hall of Fame in 2008.

Interests and Personal Life

Beyond comedy, Wright is an accomplished musician and has released non-comedic songs with his friend and actor Mark Wurtzler. He also enjoys painting. Wright has occasionally appeared on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" as a guest celebrity.
