Stipe Pletikosa, a highly decorated Croatian goalkeeper, began his professional career with Hajduk Split in 1996. During his seven-year stint with the club, he made significant contributions, including winning the Croatian Cup in 2000 and 2003. His exceptional performances earned him the prestigious title of Croatia's Footballer of the Year in 2002.
International Success
Pletikosa also made his mark on the international stage, representing Croatia at various youth levels. He played a pivotal role in the team's bronze medal victory at the 1998 FIFA U-18 World Cup and featured in all three matches for his country at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
Moves to Ukraine and Russia
Transfer to Shakhtar DonetskIn 2003, Pletikosa joined Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk alongside his Hajduk teammate Dario Srna. With Shakhtar, he won the Ukrainian Cup in 2004 as well as the Ukrainian Premier League title in 2005.
Arrival in the Russian Premier League
After losing his place in Shakhtar's starting lineup, Pletikosa returned to Hajduk on loan. However, he regained his form and made a significant comeback with Shakhtar in the 2006/07 season. In March 2007, he signed a three-year contract with Russian club Spartak Moscow for a transfer fee of €3 million.
Success at Spartak Moscow
Consistent PerformancesDuring his time at Spartak Moscow, Pletikosa showcased his exceptional skills, playing 63 consecutive matches in the Russian Premier League. He received the highest average rating (5.95) from Sport-Express among goalkeepers in 2007, solidifying his status as one of the league's top players. He also earned a spot in the Russian Premier League's best 33 players list in 2007.
Competition for Playing Time
In 2009, Pletikosa lost his starting role to Soslan Dzhanaev, making only one more appearance for Spartak. Despite his reduced playing time, he remained a respected figure within the team.
Injury and Frustration
Pletikosa's career at Spartak was unfortunately cut short due to a serious injury sustained in training. This unfortunate development dashed his hopes of a move to Tottenham Hotspur, who had expressed interest in signing him.

International CareerPletikosa represented Croatia in 114 international matches, participating in three FIFA World Cups (2002, 2006, and 2014) and two UEFA European Championships (2008 and 2012).
