Early Life and Militia ServiceSuren Mishayevich Barseghyan(born in the Shahumyan district of Yerevan) joined the "Malatia" volunteer detachment in 1989. He fought on the front lines of the Nagorno-Karabakh War in the self-defense of villages and battles in various regions.
Military Leadership
In 1991,Barseghyan became deputy commander of the "Malatia" detachment. He continued to participate in military operations, including the liberation of several villages in February 1992 and the defense of other areas in subsequent years.
Liberation of Lachin
In November-December 1992,Barseghyan played a crucial role in the liberation of the Lachin district. He was then involved in the liberation of Karvachar in March-April 1993. From August 1993 to March 1994, the "Malatia" detachment participated in the liberation of other regions as part of the 5th Brigade.
Post-War Service
Barseghyancontinued his military service, holding various positions, including battalion deputy commander and commander of the "Malatia" detachment. He was also actively involved in the "Yerkrapah" Volunteer Union, serving as vice-chairman of its Yerevan chapter and member of its board.
Recent Conflicts
In 2016,Barseghyan founded the "Volunteer Militia Detachments" public organization. He led them to the front lines during the April 2016 escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh. In 2020, he commanded the second battalion in the Hadrut defensive regiment during the 44-day war.
Honors and Recognition
Barseghyanis considered a hero of Nagorno-Karabakh and has received numerous awards for his bravery and military service. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Reserve. The "Volunteer Militia Detachments" organization continues to be active, providing support to veterans and their families.
