Early Life and Education
Suren Tigranovich Yeremyan was born in Tiflis (now Tbilisi) in 1908 to a working-class family. His humble beginnings did not hinder his pursuit of knowledge. From 1928 to 1931, he studied at the Faculty of History and Philology of Yerevan State University.
Academic Career
In 1932, Yeremyan embarked on a doctoral program at the Institute of Caucasian Studies in Tbilisi. In 1935, he moved to Leningrad and joined the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Here, he honed his skills under renowned scholars such as I.A. Javakhishvili and N.Y. Marr.
Contributions to Armenian History
Yeremyan dedicated his research to the ethnogenesis of the Armenian people and the ancient states established within Armenia. His seminal works shed light on these crucial aspects of Armenian history.
Recognition and Awards
In recognition of his scholarly contributions, Yeremyan was elected as a Corresponding Member of the Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences in 1953 and an Academician in 1963. He served as a member of the Presidium of the Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences from 1965 to 1968.
Yeremyan received numerous awards for his academic achievements, including:
