Antony Beevor, born on December 14, 1946, is a British writer and historian, known for his books on the history of the 20th century. He is an honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Kent and a visiting professor at the School of History, Classics and Archaeology at Birkbeck College, University of London. Beevor is also a member of the Royal Society of Literature and has received numerous historical and literary awards.

Beevor attended the military school at Sandhurst and served in the 11th Prince Albert's Own Hussars regiment in England and Germany from 1967 to 1970. He commanded a tank troop on the eastern border of West Germany. However, he left military service to pursue a career in literature and academia.

As a historian, Beevor is a disciple of the renowned World War II historian John Keegan. Currently, he is a visiting professor at Birkbeck College, where he teaches a course on the history of 20th century Spain.
