Ukrainian Soviet Theater Actress
Ukrainian Soviet theater actress Zinaida Aleksandrovna Koval was born and raised in Ukraine. She was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1955.
Early Career
In 1929, Koval joined the "Berezil" theater in Kharkiv. She completed her training at the theater's dramatic studio in 1934.
Ternopil Theater
From 1935 to 1951, Koval performed at the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian Drama Theater in Kharkiv. In 1951, she moved to the Ternopil Ukrainian Musical and Drama Theater, where she remained until 1968.
Notable Roles
Notable roles played by Koval include Marusia in "Marusia Bohuslavka" by Mykhailo Starytskyi and Varka in "Beztalanna" by Ivan Karpenko-Kary.
Monumental Contribution
Between 1933 and 1935, Koval posed for sculptor Matvei Manizer as the model for the figure of a peasant woman with a rake and sickle in the monumental Taras Shevchenko monument in Kharkiv.
Retirement
Koval retired from acting in 1968.
