Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the sixth President of Indonesia, was born in Treamas, a small village on the eastern island of Java in Indonesia. He comes from a middle-class bourgeois family. Yudhoyono studied at Webster University in the United States, where he obtained a master's degree in management in 1991. He later completed his doctoral degree in agricultural economics at Bogor Agricultural University in Indonesia.

Yudhoyono spent three years studying at the Indonesian Armed Forces Academy (Akabri) and graduated with honors in 1973. After completing his studies, he became a platoon commander in the Strategic Reserve Army, where he not only trained soldiers but also taught them English. His proficiency in English was one of the reasons he was sent to the United States to attend the Airborne School in Fort Benning in 1975. On July 23, 2001, Wahid underwent an impeachment process, and Yudhoyono became known as one of the few Indonesian politicians who took the fight against terrorism seriously. Upon the appointment of Megawati Sukarnoputri as the new president, Yudhoyono founded and became the leader of the Democratic Party in September 2001. His popularity grew rapidly, and in 2004, he was nominated as a presidential candidate by the Democratic Party.
