After winning 'Mallikoulu' in 2005, Koponen signed a contract with the modeling agency 'Finnish Paparazzi'. She made her breakthrough in the fashion industry during the fall-winter season of 2006-2007. Rowland was captivated by Koponen's charm and helped her secure opportunities in the industry.

Koponen's modeling career took off internationally in 2007 when she appeared in the editorial sections of 'Vogue' in France, Britain, Italy, and the United States. Today, Koponen is rightfully considered the most successful model from Finland. Leading analysts in the country acknowledge that no Finnish model has achieved such international success since the late 20th century. Unlike many of her colleagues, Koponen does not obsess over her weight. She stated in a documentary film by 'Mtv3' that she would rather quit her job than forcibly change herself.

Koponen has had the honor of opening the spring shows for 'Reem Acra' in New York and closing the shows for Carolina Herrera, Jill Stuart, and DKNY. She then traveled to Milan, where she worked for designers such as Alberta Ferretti, Anna Molinari, 'Fendi', Alessandro Dell'Acqua, and Roberto Cavalli.
