Meliton Balanchivadze, a prominent Georgian composer, was born in 1862. Her musical journey began at the Tiflis Music School of the Russian Musical Society, where she enrolled in 1912 to study piano. From 1917 to 1921, she delved into the intricate world of composition, studying under the esteemed guidance of Thomas Hartmann. Balanchivadze's academic prowess was further enhanced when she served as the school's director from 1921 to 1923.

In 1927, Balanchivadze embarked on a transformative learning experience at the Paris Conservatory, where she honed her skills in composition under the tutelage of Paul Vidal. Upon her return to Georgia, she served as Head of Music at the Rustaveli Theatre (1922-1926) and the Second State Theatre of Georgia (1928-1933).
