Tammy Roman, born Tammy Akbar/Anderson on April 17, 1970, in Mount Vernon, New York, began her path as a model. After relocating to Los Angeles, she graced the pages of national clothing catalogs and appeared in music videos, television shows, and beauty pageants. In 1988, she claimed the title of Ms. Black California.

Breakthrough into Entertainment

Inspired by her encounter with Cindy Herron of En Vogue, Tammy pursued an entertainment career. While attending auditions, she worked full-time at an HIV healthcare center. In 1993, she landed a breakthrough role on MTV's "The Real World." Following that, she hosted shows such as "Beach MTV," "MTV Jams," and "Rude Awakening."
