The Early Years of an Italian Legend

Teobaldo Depetrini was born in Vercelli, Italy, and began his football journey with his hometown club, Pro Vercelli. After showcasing his talent with their first team from 1930 to 1933, he made his Serie A debut on May 31, 1931, against Modena.

Turin Tales: Juventus and Torino

In 1933, Depetrini embarked on a historic chapter with Juventus, Turin's legendary club. For 16 remarkable seasons, he appeared in 388 official matches for the Bianconeri, including 359 in the Italian league. After the tragic Superga air disaster in 1949, which claimed the lives of Torino's entire squad, the 36-year-old Depetrini joined their rivals as a gesture of solidarity. He spent two seasons with Torino before retiring in 1951.

International Duty: The Call of the Azzurri

Depetrini's international career began in 1936 when he received his first call-up to the Italian national team under legendary manager Vittorio Pozzo. His debut came on May 17, 1936, against Austria, and he went on to earn 12 caps over the next decade, with the final one being against Austria on December 1, 1946.

Coaching Adventures

After hanging up his boots, Depetrini transitioned into coaching in 1951 with Siena. He later managed his former club Pro Vercelli and several amateur teams before making a triumphant return to Juventus in November 1958. Despite a brief stint as manager, guiding the Bianconeri to 18 wins in 32 matches and winning the 1958/59 Coppa Italia, he was replaced by Renato Cesarini at the end of the season.

Legacy: A Champion on and off the Pitch

Depetrini's contributions to football were recognized with numerous accolades during his playing career. He was a pivotal member of Juventus' championship-winning teams in 1934 and 1935, and also lifted the Coppa Italia twice in 1938 and 1942. As a coach, he added another Coppa Italia triumph to his resume in 1958/59 with Juventus.
