Education and Military Service

In 1942, amidst World War II, Stevens enrolled at Oregon State College. He joined the Army Air Corps Cadet Program in 1943 and became a qualified pilot in 1944. Post-war, he completed his undergraduate studies and pursued a law degree, becoming a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

Legal Career and Political Rise

Stevens launched his professional career in 1950, joining a renowned Washington law firm. His exceptional legal abilities propelled him to the forefront of his field, and he was elected to the Senate in due course.

Marriage and Family Life

In 1952, Stevens married Ann Marie Cherrington, the adopted daughter of Chancellor Ben Cherrington. After completing her education at the University of Denver, she served in President Truman's administration. Tragically, Ann Marie passed away in a plane crash in 1978, leaving Stevens with three sons. He remarried in 1980. Currently, Stevens and his family reside in Alaska, although he frequently travels to Washington for his senatorial duties.
