Early Life and Tennis CareerThiemo Carsten Jannick de Bakker, born on September 19, 1988, is a Dutch professional tennis player. Introduced to the game by his mother, he honed his skills from an early age. At six, he began training with the Dutch Tennis Federation while simultaneously pursuing swimming and football.
Junior Success and Professional Debut
In 2006, de Bakker triumphed as the ITF Junior Champion and claimed the Wimbledon Junior Championship title. He also secured four additional junior titles in Costa Rica, Australia, Italy, and Great Britain. Following his Wimbledon triumph, he earned a wildcard to the ATP Amersfoort and defeated Julien Benneteau in the first round.
Grand Slam Breakthrough
In 2007, de Bakker received a wildcard to the Wimbledon Championships. Despite a valiant effort, he was defeated by Wayne Arthurs in a hard-fought match. His breakthrough came in October 2006, when he won his first adult international title at the Futures tournament in Albufeira, Portugal. He followed this with another Futures victory in San Miguel, Portugal, two weeks later.
Top 100 and Beyond
By August 2008, de Bakker had reached 228th in the world rankings. In November 2009, he broke into the top 100 at number 99. He maintained his ranking (96th) through the end of the year and into the following year.
At the 2010 Aircel Chennai Open, de Bakker made it to the quarterfinals, boosting his ranking to 81st. This earned him a spot in the Australian Open, his first Grand Slam tournament in three years. While he only reached the first round in Melbourne, he performed exceptionally well at the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, reaching the third round in all three. At the 2011 Australian Open, he was once again eliminated in the first round.
