Tim O'Horoff: Driving 3,200 Miles to College
American teenager Timothy O'Horoff embarked on an unconventional journey to university, capturing his 3,200-mile solo road trip across the country on camera.

The Road Less Traveled
While most fly when traveling vast distances within the United States, O'Horoff sought a more adventurous path to begin his freshman year. Venturing out from his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, he drove 3,200 miles (5,150 km) to the University of Southern California.

A Scenic Adventure
Documenting his adventure on film, O'Horoff traversed eleven states and visited five national parks, including the Grand Canyon. He slept each night in his truck, creating an intimate experience with the American landscape.

South to West
His route took him through South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, then across Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. O'Horoff then ascended through Arizona, dipped into Utah, and climaxed his journey in Los Angeles.

Inspiration Along the Way
Working a summer internship at Frontier Capital, O'Horoff stated, "I got to hike some of our most beautiful national parks, bed down in the back of my truck, and film it all." Along the way, he quoted literary giants, including Mark Twain's observation that "The food in New Orleans is as excellent as the less criminal forms of sin."
National Parks: A Democratic Ideal
O'Horoff also invoked Wallace Stegner's words: "National parks are the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic. They reflect us at our best rather than our worst."
Unforgettable Moments
Among the highlights was O'Horoff's sledding adventure down the sand dunes of New Mexico's White Sands National Park in the northern Chihuahuan Desert. He captured footage of his toes dangling from the edge of Arizona's iconic Grand Canyon, where he camped overnight in his truck.
Zion's Farewell
O'Horoff's documentary culminated in a three-minute montage filmed within Utah's Zion National Park.
A Road Trip to Remember
In total, O'Horoff spent 45 hours on the road—a memorable way to start any college journey.
