Todd Glass: American Stand-Up Comedian
Early Life and CareerBorn and raised in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Todd Glass first took to the stage as a stand-up comedian in Philadelphia in 1982 while attending Conestoga High School. His early television appearances include A&E's "Evening at the Improv" in the late '80s and several Comedy Central stand-up specials in the early 1990s.
Television and Comedy Central
Glass is perhaps best known for his appearances as a participant in NBC's "Last Comic Standing" seasons 2 and 3. He has also made regular appearances on shows such as "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn," "The Dennis Miller Show," "Politically Incorrect," "Louie," "Tosh.0," "Mr. Show with Bob and David," and "Preston and Steve." In 2001, he hosted his own Comedy Central Presents special.
Podcasts and Radio
Alongside fellow comedians Jimmy Dore and Stefan Samorano, Glass co-hosted the "Comedy And Everything Else" podcast. However, he left the podcast in September 2009, with his departure being officially announced on November 28, 2009. Glass has since returned as a guest on several episodes following his departure.
Albums and Recordings
Glass released his debut stand-up album, "Vintage Todd Glass and Other Crap," in 2001. He was also featured on the two-CD set "Comedy Death-Ray," a compilation of various stand-up comedians performing at the popular Comedy Death-Ray comedy showcase at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles. His album "Thin Pig" was released on Comedy Central Records on July 7, 2009.
The Todd Glass Show
In August 2011, Glass's podcast, "The Todd Glass Show," debuted on The Nerdist podcast network. He hosts the show alongside a rotating cast of guests and a crew that includes comedians Rory Scovel (and his wife, Jordan) and Blake Wexler, sound engineer Katie Levin, Aristotle "Yearlong Motorcycle" Acevedo, and musicians Lynn Shaw and Joe Mackenzie, who write and perform the show's many different jingles and sound cues. Glass also tours regularly.
Personal Life
On April 16, 2010, Glass collapsed backstage at a Los Angeles comedy club after suffering a heart attack. Nine days later, Glass appeared on "The Bonnie Hunt Show," where he discussed his recent "brush with death." Glass said that he discovered he had 100% blocked arteries and, after undergoing angioplasty, stated that he was doing well. Glass attributed the health scare to poor genetics, as both of his parents had heart problems; Todd's father had his first heart attack at age 30 and died from a subsequent heart attack at age 46.
On December 20, 2012, Glass discussed his heart attack on "The Adam Carolla Show" and stated that he had lost 30 pounds since the incident. He also quit smoking (previously smoking "a pack a month") and began taking Lipitor to prevent further heart attacks.
Glass publicly came out as gay on January 16, 2012, on an episode of "WTF with Marc Maron." The information had previously been known to his friends and family, and Glass explained that he had reservations about coming out publicly but that a recent string of suicides among LGBT youth had prompted him to do so.
