As an engineer, Tom Holmes regularly deals with challenging structures and develops projects that consider all possible external forces. Recently, he used his engineering skills for a task that had a rather indirect relationship with actual construction. Ironically, this project brought him more fame than his practical and important projects he had previously accomplished.

The Domino Tower

Approaching the task with his characteristic meticulousness, Tom Holmes developed a project for the world's tallest domino tower. His architectural masterpiece, constructed "without a single nail," reached an astonishing height of 5,275 meters. Anyone who has built even a simple domino chain can appreciate the engineer's achievement – creating something of this scale without glue or additional fixings is no easy feat. Even for a professional engineer like Tom, the task proved to be extremely challenging, requiring a total of 7.5 hours to complete. The tower, consisting of 2,688 dominoes, surpassed the previous record by almost 20 centimeters (and exceeded the height of a standard double-decker bus by over a meter).

A Fascinating Challenge

Tom Holmes claims that building the miraculous domino tower was primarily an interesting and unconventional problem-solving exercise for him. Similar challenges are regularly encountered in his professional work, but this time he had to push his imagination further and create something truly entertaining and extraordinary. In addition to several hours of actual construction, Tom spent several months on preliminary preparations. He was assisted during the planning stage by his colleague and comrade, Roland Trim.

Continuing to Break Records

Tom Holmes and Roland Trim, employees of the construction and design company "Arup," meticulously developed the project, carefully testing all theories proposed during its development. Only after thorough examination did they commence construction. Based on fundamental building blocks, they were able to create structures that were both tall and capable of withstanding their own weight.

Tom Holmes and Roland Trim have no intentions of stopping at this achievement. In the future, these partners aim to break their own record with a tower that reaches a height of 6 meters. If all goes according to plan, their new creation will continue to inspire awe and push the boundaries of what is possible with dominoes.
