Tom Schaar: A Skateboarding Phenomenon

Early Life and Skateboarding Career

Tom Schaar, born on September 14, 1999, in Malibu, California, began his skateboarding journey at the tender age of four on a backyard ramp. In October 2011, he made history by landing the "900" (two and a half rotations in the air) on the mega-ramp at Tehachapi, California, becoming the youngest and eighth person ever to execute it.

Trailblazing the "1080"

Inspired by Shaun White's unsuccessful attempts to land the "Holy Grail of skateboarding," the "1080" (three rotations), Schaar set out to conquer it. In March 2012, at the age of six, he became the first person in history to successfully land the "1080" on a ramp specially adapted to his weight, repeating it again during the warm-up. The video of his accomplishment went viral, garnering nearly 170,000 views within days.

X-Games Dominance and Guinness Record

On April 30, 2012, Schaar won the Mini Mega-Ramp competition at X-Games Asia, repeating the "1080" and scoring 94 out of 100, becoming the youngest X-Games gold medalist ever at the age of 12. This record was recognized by Guinness World Records. Later that summer, he participated in the 18th X-Games in Los Angeles, landing the "900" in the Big Air competition and placing eighth.

Continued Success and Recognition

Schaar's 2013 season proved to be equally remarkable. He earned a bronze medal at the first Munich X-Games in Big Air in June, followed by a second-place finish in the same discipline at the 19th X-Games in Los Angeles a month later.

As of 2015, Schaar's sponsorships included Element Skateboards, DC Shoes & Clothing, Monster Energy, Sony ActionCam, Bones Swiss Bearings, Type S Wheels, and 187 Pads. Red Bull GmbH had previously been a sponsor in 2013, and Schaar is a member of Team Razer.

Television Appearances and Beyond

Schaar's fame extended beyond the skate park. He appeared on the game show "Figure It Out" in 2012, claiming the grand prize, and guested on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." In 2014, U-Verse launched a show called "Skateboarding," which featured Schaar's life and career.
