Early Life and EducationBorn on May 12, 1936, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tom Snyder was raised in a devout Catholic household. He attended St. Agnes Elementary School and Jesuit-run Marquette University High School before pursuing a career in medicine.
Career Beginnings
Fate intervened when Snyder decided to switch his aspirations to journalism. He began his career in the 1960s as a reporter for WRIT-AM in Milwaukee. His exceptional talent and professionalism quickly propelled him to television.
Rise to National Prominence
In 1970, Snyder moved to Los Angeles and became an anchor for a local news program. From 1975 to 1976, he hosted NBC's "Nightly News." However, it was the launch of "Tomorrow with Tom Snyder" (later renamed "The Tomorrow Show") that brought him national fame.
The Tomorrow Show
The Tomorrow Show was a groundbreaking talk show that showcased Snyder's wit, intellect, and ability to engage with guests. He interviewed an eclectic mix of celebrities, politicians, and other newsmakers, covering topics ranging from current events to personal stories.
Reinvention and Decline
In the early 1980s, Snyder rebranded the program as "Tomorrow Coast to Coast" in an attempt to adapt to the changing media landscape. Despite his efforts, the show was canceled in 1982.
