Thomas Vinterberg is a Danish film director, screenwriter, and producer. He gained international recognition with his comedy-drama film "Another Round," which premiered on September 12, 2020, and went on to receive critical acclaim and numerous awards. Childhood and Youth
Thomas Vinterberg was born on May 19, 1969, in Frederiksberg, Denmark, to Søren Vinterberg, a journalist and film critic. He grew up in the free town of Christiania, where he spent his childhood surrounded by happy people who enjoyed drinking, smoking, and living without fear. After his parents' divorce, Thomas remained in the commune until he got married. At the age of 19, he enrolled in the National Film School of Denmark, becoming its youngest student. He successfully completed his studies in 1993, with his diploma project "The Last Round" winning awards at film festivals in Munich and Tel Aviv.
Films
In 1994, Thomas Vinterberg introduced audiences to his film "The Boy Who Walked Backwards," where the main character discovers the ability to turn back time after the death of his brother. The film received positive reviews and won awards at the Nordisk Panorama and Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. His debut feature film, "The Biggest Heroes" (also known as "The Greatest Heroes"), was well-received in Denmark.
In 1995, Vinterberg co-authored the concept of the Dogme 95 manifesto with Lars von Trier, Christian Levring, and Søren Kragh-Jacobsen. Their first film following the Dogme rules was "The Celebration" in 1998, which Vinterberg also acted in. The film was shot with a handheld camera using natural light, without post-production, and with live sound and music. It achieved great success, winning awards at the Cannes Film Festival and being nominated for an Oscar.
Over the years, Vinterberg directed several acclaimed films, including "It's All About Love" (2003), "Dear Wendy" (2005), "Submarino" (2010), and "The Hunt" (2012). Personal Life
Thomas Vinterberg met his first wife, Maria Walbom, in Copenhagen when she was a teenager. They married and had two daughters, Nanna and Ida. However, their relationship was tumultuous, and they eventually divorced. Vinterberg then fell in love with actress Helene Reingaard Neumann during the production of "The Commune" and married her in 2010. They have a son named Albert.

In 2019, Vinterberg released the comedy-drama film "Another Round," which was inspired by his daughter's stories about alcohol consumption among Danish youth. Tragically, his daughter Ida died in a car accident in May 2019. Despite the devastation, Vinterberg found the strength to continue working on the film, dedicating it to her memory. Alongside the film, there have been reports that Vinterberg is currently developing an original television series titled "Families Like Ours."
