Early Life and Education

Eva Kristin Hansen was born on February 23, 1966, in Bærum, Norway. Her parents were John Willy Wilhelmsen, a factory manager, and Anne-Marie Christiansen, a secretary. Hansen graduated from Nes High School in 1985 and then spent a year studying English at Otto Treider's Commercial College and St. Godric's College in London. She later earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Akershus University College in 2011.

Professional Career

Prior to her political career, Hansen worked in various secretarial, marketing, and human resources roles. She held positions at Hydro Aluminium, Euro Invest, Horwath, and Olav Thon Gruppen. In 2003, she became a project manager for Mathiesen Eidsvold Værk ANS and later became head of department there.

Political Involvement

Hansen began her political involvement as a deputy member of the Nes municipal council from 1987-1991 and as a council member from 1991-1994. She held various roles in the Eidsvoll municipality, including as a member of the municipal council and as deputy chairman and chairman of the executive board. Hansen also served on the board of Eidsvoll Ullensaker Blad newspaper and chaired the board of Eidsvoll Football Club.

Parliamentary Career

Hansen was elected to the Storting in 2013, representing the Akershus constituency. She was re-elected in 2017. As a member of the Storting, she served as chair of the Committee on Family and Culture from 2017-2018.

On March 15, 2018, Hansen was elected President of the Storting, making her the second highest-ranking official in Norway after the King. She was the first woman to hold this position since Kirsti Kolle Grøndahl in the 1990s. Hansen was re-elected as President for a second term in 2020.
