Early Life and Education

Estonian composer Arvo Kõrvits graduated from the Tallinn School of Music and went on to study composition at the Estonian Academy of Music under Raimo Kangro. He completed his Master's degree there in 1997 under the guidance of Jaan Rääts.

Operas and Orchestral Works

Kõrvits has composed several operas, including the one-act operas "Fire Garden" and "My Swans – My Thoughts" (both 2006), commissioned by the Nargen Opera under conductor Tõnu Kaljuste. He has also composed a Concerto for Guitar and Strings, as well as various symphonies and chamber pieces.

Popular Music

In addition to his classical works, Kõrvits has also contributed to the world of popular music. He arranged songs from the repertoire of the renowned Soviet-Estonian singer Jaak Joala for a tribute concert by contemporary Estonian pop artists.

Honors and Awards

Kõrvits has received several Estonian music awards. In 2002, he became the first recipient of the Estonian President's Young Cultural Figure Award.
