Early Life and Education

Tori Belleci, born in 1970, developed a fascination for filmmaking and special effects from a young age. In pursuit of his passion, he attended San Francisco State University, where he studied cinema.

Entry into the Film Industry

After graduating in 1994, Belleci landed a job as a shop assistant at M5 Industries, where he worked under Jamie Hyneman. Starting with menial tasks, he gradually rose through the ranks.

Industrial Light and Magic (ILM)

In 1999, Belleci joined Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), a renowned special effects studio founded by George Lucas. As a model maker, sculptor, and artist, he contributed to films such as "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" and "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones."

Short Film Endeavors

Alongside his work at ILM, Belleci pursued his passion for filmmaking by writing and directing short films. His 1999 short film "Sand Trooper" was showcased at the Slamdance Film Festival and aired on Sci-Fi Channel.

"MythBusters"

Belleci's career took an exciting turn in 2003 when he joined the behind-the-scenes team of "MythBusters" on Discovery Channel. Appearing onscreen in Season 2 as part of the "Build Team," he received regular billing from Season 3 onwards.

Collaboration with Grant Imahara

In 2005, Belleci convinced his former ILM colleague Grant Imahara to join "MythBusters." Together with other Build Team members, such as Kari Byron, they often tackled the most physically demanding parts of myth testing.

Personal Reflections

Recalling his childhood dreams, Belleci retrospectively realized his fascination with special effects after seeing a photograph of the Millennium Falcon on a blue screen at ILM. Years later, seeing his own photo on the set of "Episode I" brought those memories flooding back.
