Tucker Carlson: American Conservative Political Commentator
Tucker Carlson is an American conservative political commentator and the host of the Fox News show "Tucker Carlson Tonight." He is also the founder and former editor-in-chief of the news website The Daily Caller.
Early Life and Family
Tucker Carlson was born in San Francisco, California, to Lisa McNear and Richard Carlson. His paternal great-great-grandfather, Cesare Lombardi, immigrated to New York from Switzerland in 1860. Through his maternal line, Tucker is a distant relative of Massachusetts politicians Ebenezer Hoar and George Brooks. He was named after his great-great-great-grandfathers, J. Tucker and George McNear, and has English, German, and Swiss-Italian ancestry.
After his parents' divorce in 1976, Tucker and his brother lived with their father in La Jolla, California. He attended La Jolla Country Day School and briefly boarded at Collège du Léman in Switzerland. He graduated from St. George's School in Middletown, Rhode Island, where he met his future wife, Susan Andrews.
Education and Career
Tucker Carlson earned a bachelor's degree in history from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1991. He briefly sought employment with the Central Intelligence Agency but was unsuccessful. He then pursued a career in journalism, joining The Daily Caller as founder and editor-in-chief in 2010.
Political Views
Tucker Carlson is a vocal opponent of progressivism and a critic of immigration. He has been described as a nationalist and a former economic libertarian who now supports protectionism. He opposes gun control and abortion, which he believes should not be a subject of debate.
Climate Change
Carlson believes that it is not fully understood to what extent human activity contributes to climate change.
Russia
Carlson has stated that he does not view Russia as a serious threat to the United States and has advocated for cooperating with it against common enemies in the Syrian civil war. He has also disputed the theory of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Conspiracy Theories
Carlson has promoted conspiracy theories on topics such as "The Great Replacement," COVID-19, the creation of bioweapons in Ukraine, the transfer of nuclear weapons technology to Ukraine, and the 2021 storming of the U.S. Capitol.
