Wen Jiabao: A Political Statesman
Early Life and EducationBorn in 1942 in Tianjin, Wen Jiabao is an ethnic Han Chinese politician. He became a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in April 1965. After his graduation from the Beijing Institute of Geology, Wen began his professional career as a geologist and engineer in September 1967.
Political Ascent
1985-1992Wen Jiabao held the position of Deputy Minister of Geology and Mineral Resources from 1983 to 1985. In 1987, he was appointed as Head of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Central Committee's Affairs Committee.
1992-1998
Wen Jiabao rose through the ranks, becoming a candidate member of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat and the Politburo in 1992. He simultaneously held the roles of Head of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Central Committee's Affairs Committee.
1998-2002
Wen Jiabao's career reached new heights when he was elected as a full member of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee in 1998.
