Early Life and Education

Yulia Kapshuchenko was born on December 28, 1988, in Kyiv, Ukraine. She completed her schooling at School No. 33 and went on to pursue a degree in Ukrainian philology at the National Pedagogical University named after M.P. Drahomanov. From 2006 to 2011, she studied journalism at the Institute of Ukrainian Philology under the renowned Department of Journalism.

Journalistic Career and Youth Engagement

In 2011, Yulia founded the Youth Informational Community "Sol," a journalistic project that she headed as chief editor until 2015. Her passion for youth engagement manifested in her involvement as an organizing committee member for the "Embroidery Parade" and the All-Ukrainian Festival of Easter Eggs in 2012. In 2014, she established "She.Fest," a youth festival in the birthplace of Taras Shevchenko, the revered Ukrainian poet.

Festivals and Cultural Projects

Yulia's dedication to promoting Ukrainian culture and heritage is evident in her role as one of the organizers of the Mega March of Embroideries in Kyiv from 2014 to 2018. She also founded the all-Ukrainian song contest "She. Song" in 2016, showcasing songs inspired by Taras Shevchenko's poetry.

"Video. Kobzar" and Nation-Building Efforts

In 2016, Yulia partnered with Yelizaveta Krasnichenko to create "Video. Kobzar," a project that features Ukrainians reciting Taras Shevchenko's poetry. Her commitment to fostering national unity extended to her role as director of the national celebration of Ukrainian Writing and Language Day in 2016. Additionally, she launched the "Switch to Ukrainian" campaign, involving prominent Ukrainian writers such as Oksana Zabuzhko and Yuriy Andrukhovych.

Literary Initiatives and Academia

Beyond her journalistic endeavors, Yulia held various positions in the academic and literary worlds. From 2010 to 2014, she worked as an editor at the National Pedagogical University named after M.P. Drahomanov. She also served as a journalist for the magazine "Worker" in 2013. From 2013 to 2017, she was a research associate and later the acting head of the public relations department at the National Museum of Literature of Ukraine. Since 2017, she has been the press secretary of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.

Personal Life

Yulia Kapshuchenko's parents are Petro and Natalia Kapshuchenko, and she has an older sister, Oksana Kogut. She is married to Pavlo Shumeiko, and they have a son named Nazar.
