Early Life and Education

Eva Glawischnig-Piesczek was born and raised in Austria. She received her secondary education in the United States. In 1983, she earned a master's degree in translation from the University of Innsbruck, specializing in English and Spanish.

Early Career and Political Beginnings

Before entering politics, Glawischnig-Piesczek worked as a social worker, a coordinator for a women's organization, and an editor for the newspaper Südwind. She also taught German to refugees.

In 1999, she was elected to the Austrian National Council as a member of the Green Party. She was re-elected in 2002, 2006, and 2008, becoming the first openly lesbian person elected to the Austrian parliament.

Parliamentary Work

Within the Green parliamentary group, Glawischnig-Piesczek specialized in foreign policy, development policy, and LGBTQ+ equality issues.

European Perspective

From 2006 to 2009, Glawischnig-Piesczek served as co-chair of the European Green Party, working alongside Philippe Lamberts.

Present Day

Since 2009, Glawischnig-Piesczek has been a Member of the European Parliament. She continues to advocate for progressive policies on environmental, social, and LGBTQ+ issues.
