Early Life and Career
Uwe Krupp was born in Cologne, West Germany, and began playing hockey as a youth. He made his professional debut with the Kölner Haie in 1985 and quickly established himself as a skilled defenseman.
NHL Career
In 1986, Krupp joined the Buffalo Sabres, becoming the first German player to play in the NHL. He went on to play for seven different NHL teams, including the Colorado Avalanche, where he won the Stanley Cup in 1996. In total, Krupp played 729 NHL games, scoring 88 goals and 306 assists.
International Career
Krupp represented West Germany at the 1986 and 1990 World Championships and also at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, where Germany won bronze.
Coaching Career
German National Team (2005-2011)After retiring as a player, Krupp became an assistant coach for Germany's youth team in 2005. The following year, he was promoted to assistant coach for the senior team and in 2006 became head coach. Under Krupp's leadership, Germany returned to the World Championship Group A and finished ninth in 2007 and 2008. The team also competed in the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics, finishing 10th and 11th respectively. In 2010, Krupp led Germany to a fourth-place finish at the World Championships, held in their home country. He left the national team after the 2011 World Championships.
Cologne, Berlin, and Sparta Prague (2011-Present)
Krupp then joined the Cologne Sharks as head coach and sporting director. He was fired in October 2014 and later became head coach of Eisbären Berlin from 2014 to 2018. Since 2018, he has been head coach of HC Sparta Prague in the Czech Extraliga.
