Education and Military Service

In 1939, the Ukrainian Soviet composer began his studies at the History and Theory Faculty of the Kyiv Conservatory. From 1941 to 1942, he continued his education at the Composition Faculty of the Tashkent Conservatory. During World War II, he served in the military. After the war, he graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory (under the tutelage of Lev Revutsky) in 1946.

Career in Academia and the Arts

Between 1946 and 1948, he taught theoretical subjects at the Kyiv Conservatory. In 1953, he became a member of the Communist Party. From 1951 to 1956, he served as Secretary of the Union of Composers. From 1958 to 1976, he headed the Ukrainian branch of the USSR Music Fund.

Compositions and Legacy

In addition to the works listed below, the composer created seven concertos (1949-1980), choirs, romances, suites, and songs. His compositions showcased his mastery of melody and harmony, often incorporating elements of Ukrainian folk music.
