Vadim Vakarchuk is a Moldovan weightlifter who was born on August 14, 1974. He achieved great success in his career, becoming the world champion in 1997 in the weight category up to 91 kilograms. However, his title was later stripped due to the use of banned doping substances.
Early life and Education
Vadim Vakarchuk pursued his education at Alecu Russo Balti State University, graduating with a degree in pedagogy. He showed a keen interest in sports from a young age and began his weightlifting training in Balti. His dedication and hard work paid off as he started achieving remarkable results in the sport.
Achievements
Throughout his career, Vadim Vakarchuk accomplished several notable achievements. He became a Master of Sports of International Class and won the European Junior Championship. He also secured a bronze medal at the European and World Championships among seniors.
At the Olympic Games in Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000), Vakarchuk finished in fifth place. However, his most significant victory came in 1997 at the 68th World Weightlifting Championships held in Thailand. He earned a gold medal in the 91kg weight category, with a total of 387.5kg in the combined total. Unfortunately, he was later stripped of his world champion title due to doping violations.
In 2002, Vakarchuk won a gold medal at the European Championships held in Turkey, further showcasing his exceptional skills in weightlifting.

Vadim Vakarchuk currently resides in Chisinau, the capital city of Moldova. He is married to Liliya and has a son named Bogdan. Vakarchuk has been recognized as the best athlete in Moldova multiple times, winning the title five years in a row from 1997 to 2002. His outstanding contributions to the sport of weightlifting have been acknowledged with the "Gloria Munchi" Order of Labor Glory.
