Valentyn Yuriyovych Yurin

Valentyn Yuriyovych Yurin (1922-2004) was a distinguished Soviet military officer and a respected figure in the annals of military history.

Early Life and Education

Yurin was born on 1922 in the village of Korochchino. He was an active member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).

Military Service in World War II

Yurin's military career began in 1941. During the Great Patriotic War, he served on various fronts, including the Volkhov, Kalinin, North-Western, 1st and 2nd Baltic, Leningrad, and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. He held various leadership positions, from platoon commander to division commander in the Mortar Brigade.

Post-War Career

After the war, Yurin continued his military service in various capacities. He served as deputy commander of the 22nd Separate Battalion of the Supreme Command Reserve (BON RVGK), head of the Sergeant Training School, commander of a division in the 85th Engineering Brigade, and head of the 28th Secondary Special Officer Training Group (OIICh).

Role in the Space Program

Yurin played a significant role in the Soviet space program. As the commander of the 32nd OIICh at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, he oversaw the training of personnel for the space missions.

Later Career

In the later stages of his career, Yurin served as deputy head of the M.V. Frunze Kyiv Higher Military Combined Arms Command School and deputy commander of a missile division in Lutsk. He also became the deputy head and later the head of the museum at the Lenin Komsomol Sergiev Posad Military Higher Command School.

Legacy

Valentyn Yuriyovych Yurin passed away in Sergiev Posad in 2004. He left behind a legacy of exceptional military service and dedication to his country. His contributions to the Soviet space program and military education earned him the respect and admiration of both his contemporaries and future generations.
