Early Life and Education

Valeria Anatolyevna Gerasimova was born on April 14 (27), 1903, in Saratov, Russia. She graduated from Moscow State University in 1926 and joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union the same year.

Literary Beginnings

Gerasimova's literary debut came in 1923 with the novella "Unnatural." She went on to publish a collection of short stories titled "Gauntlet and Visor" in 1931.

Novels and Themes

Gerasimova's novels and stories often explored the theme of разоблачение мещанина ("exposure of the philistine"). She contrasted the superficiality and materialism of such individuals with the genuine, socialist ideals of her protagonists.
