Early Life and Education
Born on July 3, 1933, at the Peskovo railway station in the Leningrad Oblast, he grew up in a family of Nicholas Vasilyevich and Anfisa Sergeevna. He completed his degree in history from Kyiv State University in 1956.
Journalism and Publishing Career
After graduation, he worked as a history teacher for a short time. From 1956 to 1967, he held various positions in the Komsomol organization in Ukraine and Moscow, including as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Molodaya Gvardiya" (1964-1965) and Director of the "Molodaya Gvardiya" publishing house (1968-1978).
In 1978, he became Editor-in-Chief of the popular "Komsomolskaya Pravda" newspaper, a position he held until 1980. From 1981 onward, he has served as Editor-in-Chief of "Roman-gazeta." In 1994, he was elected Chairman of the Union of Writers.
Academic Career and Accolades
In 1978, he joined Moscow State University as a professor in historical sciences. He has also been an Academician of the Academy of Creativity, Vice-President of the International Slavic Academy, and Deputy Head of the World Russian People's Council.
His outstanding contributions have earned him the title of Honored Worker of Culture. He is a recipient of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, two Orders of the Badge of Honor, and other awards.
Literary Contributions
As a renowned writer and historian, he has authored several historical novels, including "Ross Nepobedimy" (Ross Victorious), "Tulsky Entsiklopedist" (Tula Encyclopedia), and "Flotvozhd (Admiral Ushakov)."
In addition, he has published numerous articles and books, such as "Molodezhnaya Pechat" (Youth Press), "Russkie Versty" (Russian Milestones), and "Nasledniki" (Heirs), exploring issues related to Russian history and philosophy.
International Engagements and Personal Life
He has actively participated in scientific and social activities, visiting over 40 countries globally. He is married and has a daughter named Mirina. Currently, he resides and works in Moscow, Russia.
