Early Life and Education
Artur Mkrtchyan was born in Armenia and excelled in his studies from an early age. He attended the prestigious Spandaryan Secondary School in Yerevan from 1943 to 1953.
University and Academic Career
In 1953, Mkrtchyan enrolled in the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, where he specialized in Mechanics. He graduated in 1958 and embarked on a successful academic career. In 1963, he defended his candidate's dissertation, and in 1985, he earned his doctorate.
Research and Academic Leadership
From 1958 to 1975, Mkrtchyan worked at the Institute of Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS RA), progressing through the ranks from junior research associate to leading researcher. From 1970 to 1973, he served as Dean of the Mathematics Faculty at the Goris branch of the Kh. Abovyan Pedagogical Institute in Yerevan.
In 1975, Mkrtchyan became Deputy Director for Science at the Institute of Mechanics NAS RA. He subsequently held the positions of Director from 1979 to 1983, Head of Department from 1983 to 1988, and Deputy Academic-Secretary from 1988 to 1991.
Political Career
In 1991, Mkrtchyan entered the political arena as Minister of National Education and Science of Armenia. He served in this role until 1995. From 1995 to 1996, he was First Deputy Minister of Education and Science.
Later Years
From 1996 to 2005, Mkrtchyan continued his involvement in academia as Deputy Academic-Secretary of NAS RA. He was also a member of the Armenian Pan-National Movement.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mkrtchyan authored over 100 scientific publications in the field of Mechanics, leaving a significant mark on the academic landscape of Armenia.
