Voivode Voevoda's Expedition

In 1499, Voevoda Voevoda joined forces with Prince Pyotr Fyodorovich Ushaty and Prince Semyon Fyodorovich Kurbsky for an expedition to the Yugorsky Land, inhabited by the Voguls. They gathered a force of 5,000 men from Ustyug, Dvina, and Vyatka.

Founding of Pustozersk and Conquest of the Kama Region

The expedition established the fortress of Pustozersk on the banks of the Pechora River. donning skis, they ventured towards the Kamenny Poyas (Ural Mountains). After traversing 4,650 versts, they reached the town of Lyapin.

Submission of Local Rulers

Upon their arrival in Lyapin, local princes assembled and pledged allegiance to the Tsar. This marked the official annexation of the Yugorsky Land to Moscow.

Siege and Capture of Fortified Sites

Voevoda Voevoda's forces captured eight fortified positions during the expedition, while the other воеводы seized a total of 32. This significant victory further solidified Moscow's territorial influence.
