Biography of Vasyl Malyuk
Military and Intelligence CareerVasyl Malyuk is a prominent Ukrainian military and state official. Since February 7, 2023, he has served as the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). He joined the SBU's military service in 2001 and held various positions, including Deputy Chief of the Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Division.
Service in the SBU
Malyuk rose through the ranks of the SBU, serving as the First Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime from January to March 2020. From 2020 to 2021, he held the position of First Deputy Chairman of the SBU and Head of the Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Department.
Appointment as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs
In February 2022, Malyuk was appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. In March 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed him as the First Deputy Chairman of the SBU.
Acting Head of the SBU
From July 2022 to February 2023, Malyuk served as the Acting Head of the SBU. During this period, he gained recognition for his leadership in coordinating counterintelligence operations against Russian aggression.
Head of the SBU and SNBO Membership
On February 7, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) appointed Malyuk as the Head of the SBU. He is also a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (SNBO) since August 2022.
Education and Honors
Malyuk graduated from the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine in 2005 with a degree in Law. He holds a PhD in Law and has been awarded the ranks of Brigadier General (2022) and Major General (2022).
