Biography of Vic Armstrong
Early Life and CareerVic Armstrong, born Victor Monroe Armstrong, was born in 1946 in Farnham Common, Bucks, England. At the age of 14, he dropped out of school to pursue a career as a jockey. However, in the early 1960s, Vic began appearing in films, working on stunt coordination and execution. He traveled all over the world and worked on numerous film projects from various countries.
Resemblance to Harrison Ford
Notably, Vic Armstrong bears a striking resemblance to the famous actor Harrison Ford. This similarity proved incredibly useful when Ford injured his back during the filming of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." Armstrong stepped in as Ford's double, and reportedly, even the crew members had a hard time distinguishing between the actor and his stunt double. In fact, one of Armstrong's stunts, where he jumps from a horse onto a German tank in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," was named one of the top ten stunts of all time in the UK in 2002.
Stunt Work and Acting Career
Throughout his career, Vic Armstrong worked not only as a stunt performer but also as an actor, appearing in dozens of films. He has even earned a spot in the Guinness Book of Records as the most prolific stunt performer. Armstrong has doubled for actors such as Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby, and Christopher Reeve. In addition to stunts, he expanded his repertoire as a director, helming projects such as the series "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" and the iconic crime-action film "Joshua Tree," starring Dolph Lundgren and George Segal. Armstrong was also the director of the opening scene in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."
Personal Life and Legacy
Vic Armstrong is the brother of actor Andy Armstrong. He is married to Wendy Leech, whom he met during the filming of "Superman II," where she also worked as a stunt performer. The couple has three children, Bruce, Scott, and Nina, who are also involved in the film industry in various capacities. In 2011, Armstrong's memoir, "My Life as Indiana Jones, James Bond, Superman and Other Action Heroes: The True Adventures of the World's Greatest Stuntman," was published by Titan Books.
